Research Associate and Expert in the Bioinformatics and Statistics of Transcriptomics

Job Summary

The applicant will join a team for researchers in the U de S RNomics platform to oversee the experimental design of the sequencing and PCR pipeline,  statistical analysis of data and the maintenance and development of the client’s databases. The RNomics platform is a U de S core facility housed at the faculty of medicine that aims to service the U de Sherbrooke researchers as well as national and international scientists. The successful applicant will form the first contact with the perspective clients to help them design their experiments, design primers, determine number of replicates and overall experimental design. Once the data are generated the successful applicant will evaluate the data and  communicate the results to the clients.

Task and responsibility

1. Communication with the clients
2. Design and implements bioinformatics pipelines for RT-qPCR, ddPCR and RNAseq
3. Generate, establish and maintain communication protocol between sequencing, PCR and robotics infrastructure and analysis data basis
4. design, implementation, execution, and optimization of genetic data processing workflows
5. Design and implement algorithms and programs for transcriptomic data analysis
6. Debug and modify existing algorithms, LIMS, databases and transcriptomics analysis programs
7. Performing transcriptomics data quality checks and analysis
8. Communicating results on a regular basis to clients (e.g. e. mai, phone, databases etc)
9. Represent the platform in meeting, seminar and special events
10. Assist platform clients in writing statistical and bioinformatics section in grants application and publication

Required Qualification:

1. Ph. D. in computational biology or related field with focus on statistics and transcriptomics
2. Documented experience in the analysis of transcriptomics and or genomic data sets
3. Experience in Object-oriented programming in Java, Perl and Pytho
4. Web development: knowledge of CMS and MVC concepts, frameworks such as Liferay, Perl Catalyst or Django.
5. Experience in Relational database management (MySQL)
6. Experience in versioning system such as Git, hosted on Bitbucket
7. Experience in system administration in a Linux (Ubuntu) environment: SSL security, Apache, Tomcat, shell scripting

Additional preferred skills:

• Excellent communication skill in English and French is a plus
• Demonstrate competence in projects planification and administration
• Multitasking and ability to manage many projects at once
• Ability to evaluate delays and resources needed to achieve a project, and to suggest possibilities of optimization
• Ability to work autonomously
• Basic background in biology with knowledge of PCR and sequencing techniques
