Research Associate II (RNA Production)

Ribometrix is a platform therapeutics company discovering small molecule drugs that target functional 3D RNA structures to treat human diseases. Our main operations are located in the heart of Research Triangle Park in Durham, North Carolina.

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our RNA Production group. This Associate will be responsible for supporting RNA production efforts for our hit discovery and lead optimization efforts. Success in this position will require an individual who is comfortable in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with a drive to continuously improve and execute within projected timelines, and who can collaborate effectively cross functionally. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Production and purification of nucleic acid samples (including but not limited to in vitro transcription, nucleic acid extraction, restriction digests, gel electrophoresis and chromatography)
• Collaborate with RNA Biology and Lead Discovery scientists to support the production and supply of RNA for hit discovery and lead optimization
• Assist in inventory maintenance of biological reagents 
• Assist in routine monitoring and maintenance of common use laboratory equipment
• Adherence to SOPs and laboratory safety procedures
• Provide technical documentation of batch production
• Maintain a high-quality electronic lab notebook and SOPs


• B.Sc. in Biology, Chemistry or related field and 2+ years related experience
• Experience working with nucleic acids is preferred, RNA experience a plus
• Experience preparing biological reagents is preferred

Other Qualifications:

• Experience working with FPLC, especially AKTA, is preferred 
• Experience working in drug discovery, especially in an industry, start-up or production environment setting is preferred
• Ability to maintain accuracy with attention to detail is required
• Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure is required
• Ability to operate with a manufacturing mindset, performing tasks according to set procedures, sequence, or pace is required
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment both independently and in cross-functional teams is required
• Ability to accept accountability for the control or planning of an activity is required
• Ability to work in coordination with senior scientific staff and follow detailed instructions is required
• Excellent interpersonal skills, proactive communication skills, and strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills are required
• Ability to communicate with peers and all levels of management is required
• Ability to manage time and work independently is required
• Ability to prioritize and organize workload to efficiently accomplish departmental goals is required
• A can-do attitude is required
