Postdoctoral Position in Sandra Wolin’s laboratory at the National Institutes of Health2025 August 22nd, A fully funded postdoctoral position is available in Sandra Wolin’s laboratory at the National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health, in Frederick, Maryland. We study how noncoding RNAs fold into complex structures and function within cells, how cells recognize and unfold misfolded noncoding RNAs, and how the accumulation of misfolded and otherwise defective RNAs affects cell function and contributes to diseases such as cancer and autoimmunity. Our approach is multidisciplinary, as we combine state-of-the-art molecular biology techniques, genetics, biochemistry, and structural biology to discover novel functions for noncoding RNAs and to identify novel RNA surveillance pathways. Our studies are carried out in human cells, mice, and bacteria, and capitalize on the specific strengths of each of these organisms. For more information, see https://ccr.cancer.gov/staff-directory/sandra-l-wolin Our group is part of the RNA Biology Laboratory in the Center for Cancer Research. We are part of the National Cancer Institute RNA Biology Initiative, which includes more than 50 laboratories. We have access to numerous outstanding core facilities covering a wide range of technologies. The environment is highly collaborative and collegial, with the ability to interact with a wide range of scientists and clinicians. The position is ideal for motivated candidates who are seeking broad and impactful training in RNA biology. The NCI and the NIH provide many training opportunities for postdocs to develop additional skills, such as bioinformatic analyses. The position comes with a competitive salary and comprehensive health insurance as well as other benefits.
Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. and possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Graduate students who anticipate receiving their degree are also encouraged to apply. Candidates should also have significant training in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry or biophysics, as evidenced by publications.
